Eric had to admit, as he watched the doctor attack, that for a human he moved fast. Baba had told him many stories of the young man and what they'd done together, and Eric had discovered the true differences of Hannibal's mind the night that they'd met at Fangtasia. But seeing it all in person was a new kind of thing.
The jealousy slipped away a little bit.
The youth was able to even step forward and catch hold of the falling woman before she'd even truly begun to sink to the floor. Despite his average stature, Hannibal picked the victim up easily and carried her into the house. From the outside, the exchange looked like a natural happening. As if they'd knocked and been invited. The only way that anybody could have seen the truth was if they'd been standing directly behind Eric.
He stopped at the threshold.
"I can't join you yet." The vampire waited for his wife or their companion to give the invitation.
