"Ohh," she said shyly. "I'm so happy with where I've landed that I hardly ever go outside those places. I love my job and I love who I work with and ..." She paused, then blinked, then smiled secretly. Had she ever said that, even to herself, before? She looked at the ground and smiled some more.
"And I love my roommate and my cottage -- it's just over there, past that hill, actually -- and although The City can sometimes be strange and it can sometimes do things that I don't quite understand, I'm very happy here. I should try to do more things, just the way you said... Enjoy all that this City has to offer... It's a very different world from France in the 1700s."
She paused and looked up at the mayor again.
"I hesitate to say it, sir, but you seem a little... sad. For a moment, your expression looked a lot like the way I felt when I was missing someone. Is everything all right?"
