"Oh, yes, I did -- very much," she assured Dr. Crane, almost as if she were re-assuring him. Her smile was very bright and burned out quickly. "The music was beautiful, and I really enjoyed seeing the costumes. It was almost like being back home again."
That strange anxiety was twisting up inside her again. She tipped her flute glass delicately from one side to the other, freeing a few bubbles from the inside of the glass so that they rose more abundantly to the top. "I love that the night isn't over just yet," she confessed, after a moment. "After such a show, one almost has to celebrate, no?"
She smiled again at him, then glanced over her shoulder toward the throng behind them. There might be dancing soon. In Paris, she'd preferred to spend time in the library while her sisters danced, but that wasn't because she didn't know how to do it. And tonight, she wanted very much to dance instead.
