It was registering that he looked hurt. It was. But for now, Veronica just didn't care. Whatever she did wrong with Logan, it was never not letting him know she was alright. It was never disappearing for that long. Neither of them was a saint, but...
I can't come in unless you invite me.
She furrowed her eyebrows into a scowl, and her mouth opened. She started to ask what he was trying to pull, but the words died halfway through.
Her eyes were very wide, but Veronica managed to stand herself back up and head back toward the door. She stood just clear of where Logan could touch her. The things he was saying were drifting in and out to her. Car accident.... only way... didn't trust myself... over the phone...
She knew that there were vampires here. She knew that this was possible, so that wasn't a direction she needed to head in. She was focusing her gaze on his mouth, on the fangs. Veronica did not realize it, but her heart was beating faster than it should.
She swallowed. Hard.
"You... you..."
She really hadn't wanted to cry. But she also wanted a pizza, and that seemed like it wasn't likely to happen, either. She made no effort to stop the tears.
"... died?"
That's what the tears were for. He'd died. And there was no taking that back. After Lilly, this was difficult to even process. Because he was still standing there. Veronica took a step forward and stood as close to Logan as she could without leaving her apartment. Her eyes were wet, and red. But she was done crying.
"Come in," she said.
She wasn't sure if this could be fixed, but in Veronica's estimation, Logan better start trying. Right now.
