"Oh," Beauty said, lifting her head. "I didn't know that. Oh, gracious, that must have been confusing." Her brow drew together. "I wonder why..."
She put it on the list of questions she'd thought up to ask the City tonight. Although during their conversations, he sometimes didn't quite answer her questions, she always wanted to ask them anyway. Besides, it was right that friends shared their days and what they did. It was one of the ways that friends became closer.
Again, thoughts of a particular person filtered into her consciousness. It had been happening too much, lately. How did one get another out of one's system? She ran her fingertips over the coarse napping of the jeans she wore and pressed air through her lips.
"I hope I didn't worry anyone," she said quietly, looking up at Lestat. "I hope I didn't worry you. An arrest? How odd... We don't usually have those in the news, do we?"
But it was good to be missed. She smiled and reached over to him, and caught his hand, and pressed it tightly. So cold... how odd. Lestat never struck Beauty as cold. "Thank you for missing me," she said earnestly. "I'm sorry I was gone, but I'm very glad to come back to a friend."
