"Hm. Sounds a little like the start of my friendship with my Dean," Dinah said, though she let the subject drop after that. She had a sense that maybe there was more to the story but it wasn't her business.
Or was it? Was it her business since it involved another version of herself and another version of the man that she cared about?
"Everything moves around. Buildings, streets, sometimes rooms within the buildings. Sometimes the City puts things in your fridge or your home. Sometimes it keeps you from things or people. Sometimes it puts you in the path of something or someone."
She shrugged.
"I will give the City this-the food here is amazing. Just about any type of food you could want. Sometimes if you're craving something, it's nice enough to put that in your path."
It wasn't all bad here, after all. She was somehow able to see that more than ever after spending a few weeks somewhere less nice. All the same, she didn't care where she was or how the food was if she kept losing the people that she cared about.
Once their order was finished and called out, Dinah accepted the tray and then looked around for a table among those in the outdoor pavilion outside the burger stand.
