"Moving streets and buildings," Dinah supplied. "Like I said, the City moved me in with the other you. One day my house was just gone and all of my things were in his apartment."
She sighed and shrugged.
"We may not have all of those worries, but we just have to worry about waking up and having our loved ones missing because the City's decided it's done with them or that they're used up."
Dinah's voice was a little bit raw with emotion, but talking about that didn't reduce her to tears quite like it would have even a month or two ago.
"I'm not saying we have it worse, but we don't always have it easy here."
It was their turn in line then and Dinah ordered and waited for Dean to give his order before paying for the food. While they waited for their food to come up, she pondered something else.
He knew the other her, and he'd kissed her back when she'd kissed him. Maybe she was reading into things, maybe not.
"So how well do-did-do you know the other me?" She couldn't decide if it was a past tense question or not, because she wasn't sure if the doubles would have made it over to the City or if they were all staying or... what. She took out her phone and sent a text message to her Dean, hoping that he was in the City to get it and that the City's circuits wouldn't misroute it, as sometimes happened.
She just wanted to know that he was okay and that he was here. She just wanted to find him soon.
