The detective in question was angry. Angry and possibly scared. He had searched the City, looking for someone. He knew that Jennifer was at the precinct because he might have been one of those forwarded calls. He might have been the reason she was getting some of them. He hadn't meant to start that. Now and then he'd call in to make sure she was still there without really talking.
Ted was gone. Ted, like many others, was gone, and Charlie wasn't sure what to do about it. It wasn't like they could demand the City give them back, and for all he knew, the City sent them back to wherever they had been.
He walked slowly through the precinct to his office where he was sure his partner would be. Actually, after the bellow, he knew she was there. He was carrying fruit. She probably needed something to eat. Cut up fruit for her to pick at.
Charlie Crews wasn't smiling, not his bright curious smile. No. He did give his partner a slight smile as he set the container full of pieces of fruit.
"Eat it." He also pulled out a bottle of water. "Drink it. Then we'll get coffee." Hopefully, she wouldn't notice the slight scuff marks on his knuckles.
