The detective pushed from the wall as well and followed. He looked more like a delivery man, a well dressed delivery man, than he did someone just walking her home. It was the boxes.
"I know." Charlie nodded, possibly to the residential information. He didn't keep many secrets from his partner. He didn't see any reason to do it. "You could try planning. You or Ted may be the only ones who could or would do it. Plan a surprise party. I don't think Ted would do it without asking, which would make it less of a surprise, unless he didn't tell me when. Or what the theme is. Is there going to be a theme?" He was smiling, almost teasing.
"Now if this were a date, I'd kiss you." He nodded to himself.
"Probably make you hold the boxes." He handed over the boxes as he said this.
"Lean in." He moved in closer.
"Make sure you're pressed against the door just a little." Yes, he had moved in closer to do just that.
"One hand at your waist, the other just above your shoulder." His hands were there as he spoke, finger tips brushing at her hip over fabric of the very nice dress.
"Look in your eyes as my lips got closer to yours." His voice dropped now to a whisper as he followed his own possible instructions. Then he paused, looking into her eyes.
