"Reading is good for that." Jennifer knew that Charlie's time away was a dark period of his life. She wouldn't bring it up on purpose, or make him talk about it. She had no desire to make him uncomfortable or make him think of things he didn't want to. Still, he was free with the knowledge, never trying to hide it. He didn't seem to resent it, not in the way she would have.
She was almost a little sad when they stopped dancing. It had been fun. But this also wasn't really the place to be taking up room by dancing. There was probably a club out there that was for that purpose. Which Jen had never thought of looking for before now.
"Friendship and what Dean and I were doing aren't the same thing as what I think he's found now. I'm sure if I were a different person, I could convince him to do things he didn't want to be. Try to take him from her." Jen shook her head softly, her slightly curled hair bouncing around her shoulders. "But I know the woman he's interested in, and I like them both. And... well, I'm not that kind of person anyway. The fun time is over with him, I can live with that."
