Jennifer leaned on the counter with one hand. Glad that Charlie had decided to take charge, because she was in no mood to. She just wanted the chocolate. Maybe a hot bath later with some wine. She wasn't mad at Dean, and she wasn't truly heartbroken or hurt, but she was disappointed. Disappointment could require the same things to erase as other, stronger feelings, sometimes.
Plus, it didn't hurt that Charlie really knew his pastries. The things he picked made her mouth water. She didn't even wait for the box to be handed over to her to pick out one of the German chocolate cupcakes and have a bite of it. It was much better than she had expected, which was saying something.
"Thank you." She said, swallowing her bite. "It didn't get to be appreciated in the way I had intended it to be, so I thought I would flaunt myself all over the place before I head home to bury myself in these." Her hand waved to the box.
"What are you doing here? Just getting fruity things?" Jennifer always expected her partner to be interested in fruity things. He never seemed to be without them. It had been strange to her at first, but now it was endearing.
