"It certainly doesn't," he said. "And you needn't worry, I can count the number of comic books I've read on one hand." Comics had been one of the first things to go in the purge of material that caused emotional reactions. Bright colors, larger than life stories, and the highly flammable material they were printed on meant that they were easy targets.
His voice warmed as he moved into talking about his favorite topic. "I've started reading Kurt Vonnegut and am quite enjoying him. And Roald Dahl. He's in the children's section, mostly, but..." He hesitated for a bare moment, not wanting to say that he'd never had a chance to read children's books as a child, and instead said, "but he's tremendously entertaining. And there's a collection of essays by Mark Twain somewhere back there that I enjoyed." He waved a hand vaguely in the direction he remembered. "It may have been moved. For poetry, I've always been a fan of William Butler Yeats, but I've also recently discovered Charles Bukowski and I think I'm becoming fond of him."
