A ghost of a smile settled on her mouth. Cheese. She hadn't eaten tonight, but her stomach wouldn't have let her even if she wanted to. She shook her head.
"But thank you," she said, automatically trying to set him at ease despite everything. "And thank you, too, for the apology. It means a lot."
Sliding to the edge of her chair, she set an elbow on the tabne and propped her cheek on it. It really did mean a lot. He had taken so much away from her... but the person in front of her was sorry to see her like this... and that was something. Especially when he wouldn't have understood anything about how she felt when he first met her. It was a step in the right direction.
"You know," she said. "Everyone needs at least one friend. I know it's not something we can just decide on now, but... would you like to try to be friends with me? I would like to try to be friends with you, Thomas. I think you really do mean to be kind, even when you take friends away."
