Mr. Balveen could be heard from where Lois was sitting, but just barely. In that muffled way that it was possible to overhear other people's telephone conversations from a few feet away.
Lindsey didn't bat an eye.
"Well, I appreciate that, counselor. But what I want you to really think about here is that your client is in the public eye. He's in a position that comes with having to deal with reporters, and editorials, and also people like me. He signed up for the criticism--which is absolutely no worse than anything I've read of Ms. Lane's before. You wanna sue her for doing her job because your client is basically unable to handle his, be my guest."
There were a few minutes of silence, during which Lindsey smirked, first with one side of his mouth, then the other. Alternating.
"Good," he finally said when Mr. Balveen spoke again. "I'll have my secretary send something over. You have a nice day."
