"Water. Yes. I'll drink water." Thomas nearly tittered when the wings came back into view. "Everyone should have these. This was why they disliked the little cherubs, they were jealous. Wings. That is what will please them."
His fingers moved over the wings as if he were looking for something. Round the edge, over the surface, up and up to see where they attached.
"I must see how they work. This will make them faster, lighter. They will be happier than they have ever been." Thomas was working out what he would do for his children. If they could fly then that nasty boy couldn't get them. If they were beautiful, it would be beyond a crime to hurt them. He would protect the children.
