Jack grinned at the tray, and there might have been a rush of relief when she returned and the house seemed to back off on the overwhelming presence that seemed to be looking over his shoulder.
"I have no complaints. If you had been expecting someone, then I wouldn't be here."
His stomach growled in appreciation at the smell of the food. It wasn't gourmet by any means, but it was home cooked which was something he hadn't had in quite a long time.
