"David. Hatter." Fred thought that was a strange name. She wasn't exactly ignoring his question about the mayor or mentioning the mayor, but the name caught her attention. "Are descended from haberdashers? Or is that different from a hatter? Did they make grand chapeaus? I'm pretty certain it's not chateaus hatters made." She smiled. She wasn't meaning to tease him about his name, but it was a fun bit of word play.
"I'm sorry. Hatter. Okay, Hatter. And, yes, the mayor." She said softly, almost sadly. "He's a nice guy. He tries to do the right thing, though poor thing seems to have the bad end of it even if he's successful." Becoming mayor had been for the right reasons, only it had ended their relationship. Or more she had let it end their relationship.
"They do. You can grind up the meat. Or fillet it or make it a steak. I've never had it, but I do know people eat alligator meat. I have had rattlesnake. It's okay. I like beef myself." The brainy female nodded, giving him a smile; she liked it when other people smiled. She needed to see other people smile.
