Jen nodded, she knew that about Simon, and had even had similar thoughts about the way he'd broken up with her. How could somebody say things like that and then say they didn't want to be with you? It wasn't something she understood.
"He's fun. Dean is fun. He's casual. I'm not sure how casual he thinks it is anymore." She thought of the scene they'd made when they'd tried to have a nice dinner out, and couldn't help but smile just a little. "But even fun deserves the truth, doesn't it? It's not right to keep him thinking that... well. Anything, really. Anything he's thinking right now about me and us isn't honest."
Jennifer was a very honest person, she didn't like games and didn't like secrets, and yet here she was playing games with Dean and keeping secrets.
She had feelings for Charlie, too, that she didn't understand, or wasn't able to in her current state of mine. With no idea of his thoughts, and a red flag on dating work mates that she'd thrown up because of her past, she'd never even thought of talking to him about it. She wasn't even really sure what she felt, so it didn't really matter in her mind.
The feelings for Simon were clear, though. Love, hurt, and pain.
She felt like a child, getting cleaned up by him, but didn't stop it from happening. "Just after being brought here, to this strange but oddly normal place, leaving behind what I did..." Jennifer didn't remember if she'd ever told Charlie the whole deal of her past life, of her daughter. She didn't like talking about Katie. She wasn't sure how to feel about being here without Katie or what it meant that they were apart. "Simon was so sweet. He wasn't perfect, and a little weird about some things, but he was mine. As much as any person can belong to another, I guess. It just hurt so much that he was taken too. I pushed it down."
Jennifer looked at her partner. "Because if he could be taken, what else could be? Dean was supposed to be a one night thing. After I got my ass kicked by that woman. What does it mean that it didn't stay that way? Does it mean anything?" She might have sounded like Charlie a little bit.
