Dinah had finally managed to clean up the shattered glass. Which meant that now all she had to do was install the window panes. It would go faster with help but she still wasn't really up for talking to anyone and maybe there was a part of her that needed something that she could just fix with her hands.
Once she was done with the windows, she already had plans to start working on upgrading her bike.
She had all but ignored the presence of Harry's office across the street. There was a part of her that was angry that he hadn't even tried to call her after the break-up letter. And there was a part of her that really just wanted to seek comfort in her ex's arms.
Then there was a part of her-a much larger part-that just didn't want to deal with any more pain right now.
She'd been gathering up some of the tools she had in the back room of the shop when Dean first approached, so when she returned to the front of the shop it was with a toolbox in hand. She jumped at the sight of someone standing just outside before she recognized who it was. She had caught the tail end of the exclamation and followed Dean's line of sight. Somehow she had a feeling that he wasn't upset about the presence of Fred's building.
Even if he could have just climbed right in through the areas where the glass was missing in the large display windows, she went over to the door and unlocked it, pushing it open.
"Hey stranger," she said softly. "Haven't seen you around for a few days. Everything all right?"
The Impala had remained stationary, which wasn't necessarily a good sign. Dinah hadn't had the strength to look for any sort of confirmation that someone else she cared about was missing, though she would have if he had been missing for much longer.
As it was, she was glad to see him even if she wasn't really ready to break the news about what had happened to Jake to anyone. Her face might have looked a little pale and worn out, but she hadn't been crying over the last two hours for a change. It was possible that she had just run out of tears, and it was possible that all of her energy had been going toward the productive task of cleaning up her shop and getting ready to place the window panes.
