Jack took note of the disappointment on Alice's face. He had his guesses about who she might be hoping to see. He shook his head slowly.
"No. I'm sorry, Alice but I've been here for months and you're the first person I've come across that I knew before I arrived here."
He paused in his explanation to order as a waitress came by. Once they had both had the chance to order and she had left, he turned his full attention back to Alice.
"I'm told that arriving here is different for everyone. I went through the Looking Glass with the intention of visiting... somewhere else and ended up here. And as much as I've looked, I haven't been able to find the Looking Glass or any other way home."
Of course, he'd given up looking when he'd been elected Mayor. He had a duty to the people here now.
