The big guy wasn't hesitating, and Rufio was fine with that. Ignorant that anybody else was there besides himself and the pirates he curled his legs in as his enemy lurched forward. As soon as he set off the trap a set of fireworks exploded, knocking the gang's leader to the side. Rufio felt a singe of heat on one cheek as he rolled to the side, then scrambled up and snatched his sword. He jumped up and spun, letting out a roar as he plunged his blade into the shoulder of his foe.
The scream was blood curdling, or maybe it was somebody who wasn't used to it, though Rufio had to admit he didn't much like its echo in his home.
He yanked the bloodied blade free and then struck three times in rapid succession, splitting open the man's arms and rendering them useless before he kicked the other in the chest, sending him falling back. Rufio was on top of him in moments, sword tip pressing into his throat just enough to break the skin.
"Freeze, pirate, or I'll gut you like a fish," the Pan snarled. The instinct to live kicked in and the big gangster went still except his panting for air, face contorted with pain as he stared up at the youth. The gangster with the baseball bat, having stoo back to let his boss handle the situation, started forward again but stopped when Rufio's head jerked up. "You picked the wrong place to pillage, give me an excuse and I'll kill your captain permanently!"
It was very clear by the look in Rufio's eyes that he was waiting for an inkling of such an excuse, and the gangster looked to the fallen man for advice, dropping his baseball bat and backing away as he received the slight nod.
The two most prevalent threats dealt with, Rufio looked up to spot the others and figure out how best to drive them all out without surrendering his current captive.
