Apparently rude people were everywhere, Jeannie noted with some dismay. First there was the leprechaun, though to be fair, she had not truly thought he would have manners anyway. He was a leprechaun after all. But now, there were these butterfly men who were also extremely impolite. Did know one have manners any longer?
After being soundly ignored, Jeannie was somewhat disinclined to care that the second man was not only limping, he was in very obvious pain. She could have helped with that. Instead, she stood aside and watched as the short one walked to the counter. But his words had her eyes narrowing.
He had intended to cause harm to the security guard? And now he was threatening that poor cashier unless he got lettuce. That seemed terribly unreasonable to Jeannie. Who kept lettuce in a bank? Perhaps someone had a little in their lunch box, maybe a salad or two, but she did not think that would satisfy the butterfly men. They seemed to want more, but then why had they not gone to a grocer’s rather than a bank? They were not very bright, were they?
Obviously, the djinn thought to herself, there must be something she could do to help. Oh, maybe if they got what they were asking for, then they would leave. And no one else had to be hurt. Yes, that was very logical.
Arms crossed, Jeannie blinked and nodded, and several heads of lettuce appeared on the counter between the cashier and the short, fat butterfly. Jeannie smiled, and waited to see if it would be enough. Then she blinked as another head of lettuce followed by several loose lettuce leaves fell, apparently, out of the ceiling. That was not supposed to have happened. Jeannie looked up and frowned, then jumped backwards as a rain of lettuce began to shower down on those inside the bank.
Another blink had an umbrella in her hand, which she promptly opened, even as several others scrambled to get beneath desks and counters. Jeannie’s frown deepened, wondering why it was that sometimes her powers worked perfectly well and others they seemed to have a mind of there own. There was something very odd about her new master. Besides the fact that it was, in fact, a city. Something very odd.
She had, at that point, completely forgotten about the butterfly men. Her concentration was taken by shoring up the umbrella to withstand the heads of lettuce falling upon it. They were rather heavy.
