Zoe didn't hide the smile, but it wasn't as 'told you so' as it could have been. She just kept walking. Of course, he could eat. She remembered the boys on the ship and out in the field; they could always eat unless something rather stressful or horrifying happened. Sometimes even then. The Amazon had learned a long time ago to eat when she could.
"An apartment." She gave him a shake of the head at the bad joke, coming to stand in the very short line at the stand. Her hand dipped into her pockets, and she was lucky enough to find a few more dollars that would cover a snack for the both of them.
"I learned to fight for something rather than against. I fought first to keep my family and ship safe; then I fought to keep my family and others free. Now, I guess I fight to keep the streets safe for the City's citizens." Zoe didn't shrug, but she didn't look down at the boy. She'd never really thought of it as fighting against someone; she knew she was fighting against people, but it was more a fighting for an idea. Who knew she was an idealist?
