Zoe would have understood about the soldier. She would have understood a good bit, and she didn't even suggest he stop screaming. The screaming helped, him anyway. As soon as he was out of the way, far enough that he would be caught again, she let it all go. She leaned heavily against whatever was closest to keep herself from toppling over, but she didn't "rest" long.
She climbed round to Arthur to get a better look at the leg. She needed to make sure she'd been right about the damage. As soon as she got him out and to the hospital the better she'd feel. They'd probably have to stabilize the leg before starting up, so as she climbed, she grabbed two bits of what looked like wood and the end of the rope. Just a quick bit of cutting would have the rest of the makeshift splint ready for service.
