There was so much rubble in the streets. Zoe couldn't think of a time when the City had left things so...Usually it cleaned up after itself, but this hadn't felt like anything the City had done before. Then again, the City did like to do that - things it hadn't before.
She was helping a group of people right a vehicle when she heard something. At first she thought it was nothing to investigate, but it continued. Once the car was righted, she nodded at the "thank yous" and started following the sound.
It nearly caught her breath as she came upon a building that had definitely seen the worst of the storm; one side looked to have fallen in. She tried not to imagine what might be under there, the bodies mangled and...
There it was again. CLANG CLANG CLANG. The sound was definitely louder now. She raced over, surprised that no one seemed to be calling for help. A quick dialing, and she had emergency services, what there was of them, on the phone. Nothing like being put on hold. Even she knew there were things bigger than what she could do. Only CLANG CLANG CLANG.
She walked carefully closer, realizing that the sound was coming from what looked like a lower level.
"Hello!" Yes, it wasn't the best greeting, but what else was she supposed to say? "Someone down there?" She yelled the last question, feeling a little silly, but for all she knew, it was some defect in some pipe, not someone banging away for attention.
