The plate glass hadn’t stood a chance; it had taken two full-body throws before it shattered enough that she could push it out of the frame, but her hyena body was well-muscled and compact, so it hadn’t really hurt at all. And now she was inside. In moments, her babies would be joining her.
While she waited, Harley took the time to pad around the store, taking stock of what was in stock. There were some very pretty things that she intended to take with her, but none of them trumped what had first caught her attention. So she trotted back towards the front window, nails clicking against the cool tile floor.
But when she got there, her attention was diverted by some movement outside. These eyes saw better at night than her human ones, and she thought those were pretty good. The slight movement in her peripheral vision had her freezing until she could assess the threat. When she realized what, or rather who, was out there, though, Harley couldn’t help but grin.
Like old times. Except not. Because she wasn’t what she was before. She was something new and different. Oooo, this was going to be fun.
Very slowly, she eased the necklace she wanted off the velvet padding, then slunk back into the darkness of the shop. Moving behind one of the counters, she found Lou waiting for her. Bud might still be in the alley, but he shouldn’t be too long. Harl managed to get the necklace over her head, though it got stuck on one ear for a moment, then sat back to wait.
Bats and birds. No match for hyenas. Not even close.
