Baba started to smile. It was cold, cruel, and calculating. She didn't hide this; she didn't hide the hint of hunger there either. As he leaned in, she leaned forward, her voice dropping as if she were sharing a secret.
"While I may not be as caught up in fashion as others, I do notice things. Unless you like wearing clothes that make you look like some of these cartoon types I've seen people watch." Her smile for a moment turned teasing, the coldness gone. "Or is that the current way to wear such?"
She leaned back and gave him a once over. "You walk differently. You move differently, and you feel differently. You are not human. No, I'm not either. I've no reason to hide it. I can feel when people are different. I know when someone is brought in from outside, and I am learning to feel the differences, what they mean." She looked at the bag of groceries.
"Either you are eating those things," Yes, there was definite disgust with the false confections. "Because you have a speedy metabolism." She said the word slowly, testing it. "You are young, but even those would add something to your young build. Or you feel guilt, and are trying to sugar it away. Or both?"
