Baba was indeed staring at him. She had guessed that he might have certain issues, and the fact that he shut down like he did only supported her guess. She didn't get out of his way. Instead, she stood in front of him, putting her hands on her hips.
"If you were a dog, you'd have much much more room to grow. You'd be a bit of a freak if you didn't grow to fit your feet. In fact, humans are one of the few creatures that don't grow to fit whatever large part of them is large. Though, you could grow to fit your feet." She looked him over, slowly, as if she were taking everything in. Possibly as if she could see right through his clothes, perhaps into his very being.
"Don't you have any confidence? Do you feel only shame about your size? What sort of man are you? A bigger man, well obviously you aren't a bigger man. But you should be proud of who you are, but no, you aren't are you? Because there are people who might be mean. Who might hurt you. I'm a little bitty thing, and you just shut right down. Polite, polite is for people who have nothing else to fall back on. Get mad!" Yes, she knew she sounded crazy. She also knew that the boy was hiding. She'd seen it before; the ugly duckling was a story she knew rather well. Then again, the crone knew and played part somewhat in many stories.
