The bartender might not have been afraid, but the few patrons who had taken up a stance or seat within a few feet of the two, read her body language and decided it was best to make some space. Within seconds, there was a good diameter of emptiness between Gaius, Zoe, and the rest of the occupants. And, with the exception of a few stools and a table and chairs, very little obstructed their paths.
"I don't think you saw what you think you saw. I believe you to be mistaken. That being the case I should ask you to apologize to me. But, because I understand that not everyone can abide by common courtesy, and because this is probably just a frakkin' nightmare anyway, I'll let it slide."
Oh, Gaius. He had no idea what sort of trouble he was asking for by tempting this woman. There were some people that he was very skilled at manipulating. The tall woman before him? Probably not one to be swayed by his lies and trickery.
"Please just go back to your drink and leave me to dwell in my sorrowful imagination. Here, I'll even get you another drink. Barkeep!"
