The smoke was now burning at Dinah's eyes. She realized with a start that she had to prioritize and get the stovetop turned off before she dealt with the intruder with a gun. If the apartment burned down, any worry about getting shot would be a moot point.
She rushed into the kitchen and turned off the stovetop. She returned to the entry way quickly, though she paused and held her hands up, readying her cry if it came down to it. But first, she was going to at least try to figure out what was going on here. She wasn't one to knock out first, adn ask questions later after all.
"Okay, there's no need for a gun. Who are you and what do you want?"
