Veronica stood up from her spot on the floor, tucking the candybar into her jacket pocket and sliding the taser up the sleeve. She held the flashlight steady with her right hand and followed the sounds.
Admittedly, these weren't heavy footsteps. Whoever this was knew they shouldn't be here after hours. She crept around the shelves until she saw a beam of light dancing at a height a little higher than her head.
Veronica didn't turn off her flashlight. She had a taser; if this person was armed, she didn't want to get shot or tased or whatever else because no one saw her coming. She'd rather get grabbed, and deal with the consequences.
She waited until the beam of light came around the corner, so she could see who it belonged to. The guy was super tall, and Veronica's thoughts on that height had nothing to do with her own tininess. He was seriously concentrating, and he was armed.
Okay.
Confidently, Veronica strode over to him. She smiled brightly. "Hi," she said. She furrowed her eyebrows convincingly. "I'm looking for a book on creepy after hours library occurances."
