Logan was still staring at Lilly in surprise. She hadn't said it out loud? What did that mean?
Even worse was the implication that she'd been at peace and now she was miserable. He knew he had a part in making her miserable.
It figured. He and Lilly... they'd always made each other miserable in some way or another. It had been passionate and exciting and volatile and in the end, there had been nothing but pain.
He remembered wanting nothing more than to see her again. To talk to her, to hold her. Thinking that if he'd just get that chance, everything would be right with the world again.
And here he had that chance. She was back, and all he could do was fuck it up.
"I'm sorry, Lil," he murmured.
Logan turned his attention to Veronica and leaned over to give her a gentle kiss on the forehead. He wanted to pull her into his arms, to tell her it was all going to be okay. Wanted to do a lot of things, but he knew any more affection towards Veronica would just make things worse with Lilly.
"It's nothing. I'm going to leave you two alone. This isn't exactly 'Three's Company' after all.'"
