Jake headed out of the classroom, sighing in relief. Finally the day was over. He had a bitter headache from trying to keep whatever the teachers were thinking out of his mind. It never worked as well as he wanted it to, but it felt like cheating when he didn't at least make the effort.
Oy was waiting for him, as always. The bumbler fell into step behind the boy. "Dinah's been acting weird, huh?" he confided, rubbing Oy's back. "First, she's gone for a night. Then she's checking up on me so much it's like she's trying to make up for something. And this morning? Pancakes and bacon and toast and eggs? I practically had a four-course lunch in my bag!"
Oy was the perfect confidante. He made sounds of agreement, and kept his neverending loyalty to Ake. Jake gave a small sigh. "At least I can walk home in peace. She probably thinks she needs to pick me up again."
