She laughed and nodded. "Government." Before he could ask questions, Jennifer continued. She figured that he'd given details, so she should be as open. "But it's not how you think. It's not a coincidence. I worked for the Government. Before that I worked as an ad executive at Maher and my last name was Maher. It changes. Wherever you work, that's your last name."
That really never stopped sounding absurd to her now. She'd met so many people with last names that had nothing to do with their jobs, and it seemed very normal. Even to her, who had grown up being used to the way things were and having her last name be where she worked.
"I didn't change it when I got my job here because, well. Nobody does that. Here."
