Jennifer wasn't really the type for really fancy parties. It wasn't as if she had the money to go to things like that. She couldn't afford the clothes, and she couldn't afford the tickets. But how could she pass something like this up when both had been provided for her? Apparently free of charge, no less?
When she'd finished getting ready and looked at herself in the mirror, she'd been unsure if she should even go through with it. In the expensive dress she'd felt like a fake. But now that she was looking at the party, at the exquisite set up, she was glad that she'd come. If only because she would be able to look at beautiful things all night, watch beautiful people.
At the door she was handed a box and a mask. She was surprised to discover that it matched what she was wearing completely. As if the people at the door had known beforehand what she'd have on. And maybe they did, really. This place was keen on doing things strangely. Jennifer put the mask on, it rested over just her eyes, just covering the area slightly above her eyebrows to just over her cheekbones. It was ornage in a way she never would have picked for herself, but she couldn't help but love it.
She moved into the room, glancing around, tucking the box into her handbag. Enjoying the looks she was getting. She felt different now. As if she did belong here after all. She felt, actually, as if she belonged more than others who were here.
