Charlie listen carefully to what Ted was saying; he wasn't looking at his best friend, because Ted was certainly Charlie's best friend, so much as looking just over his shoulder, his eyes narrowed. He was thinking.
"Yes, they have books on everything. I'm sure the Library or a bookstore would have books on cats. We would have to decide on what sort of cat. Names, all of that, but I think we could raise a cat. Cats don't need someone around all the time, but enough to know they are wanted and needed. Sort of like some humans." Charlie nodded as he thought this through, finally looking at Ted. "You don't need an office; just need to stay busy."
"You could try looking for another coffee shop. Maybe you'll get the first one. Was the coffee good? We could look for it. I am a detective; I may be able to find it." He gave Ted another reassuring smile. Charlie knew Ted could handle himself, more or less, but there were times he became concerned for his friend. He didn't want Ted to fall into bad habits, even if Ted seemed very much on the path of the straight and narrow.
