"Your partner? No." It wasn't exactly a strange thing in Ted's estimation that he hadn't met her yet. The only reason he'd met Reese, he thought, was because she'd showed up to the house drunk. It was just that Charlie didn't think of things like bringing his partner home for dinner.
Work, yes. Partner, no.
Everything else said about the woman was kind of put aside when Charlie started talking about the cat. It took Ted a full two minutes to process the words that had been put together. "The cat. Is telepathic?" Why this should startle him so when he'd just decided to accept what the City had to offer, he couldn't say. Maybe it was just that he hadn't met any spectacular animals. Well, aside from the wolf, of course. And the wolf couldn't talk, it just understood what was being said.
And he had to admit that he sometimes still didn't understand the way that his friend's brain worked. The man was more than willing to accept a telepathic cat, but he completely missed what Ted was saying about strawberry trees. He decided to not elaborate on that.
"All I'm saying is that if I went on vacations, there's no reason other criminals wouldn't. Everybody likes a vacation, Charlie."
