Charlie didn't jump when he heard Ted's voice. In fact, he smiled at the other man. There was something good about having Ted around, about having another living person around who understood some of what he'd gone through. Ted understood prison, even if he didn't have the same experience that Charlie had had. Not many people could have Charlie's particular experience, but then Charlie couldn't have everyone else's experience could he?
"It's a case. I am surprised it hasn't gotten into the paper or the news, but the City has its own way of doing things. I guess." He went back to slicing fruit, setting some aside that he knew Ted really liked, and others he knew Ted wouldn't care for too much. He didn't get very inventive with the cuts. Why alter food in someway? It was tasty no matter the shape, and it had found its proper shape while growing, hadn't it?
"I assure you we're working on it." Charlie looked up at Ted; he meant it. He knew Ted could get upset, and in this case the numbers man had every reason to be so. Maybe. There was something off about the whole thing that bothered the detective. He'd have to talk to Jennifer about all of it soon.
"We have fruit." As if Ted couldn't see that for himself.
