We set our own paths, and follow our own hearts and minds. If she could only know how that very sentiment was at the core of Spock's dilemma. His father's people followed their minds. His mother's people followed their hearts. To combine the two would be to live a life entirely unlike that which he had come to know.
"My father is from the planet Vulcan. It is a desert planet. The people there have come to embrace logic and emotional control as the path of finding one's true self. The kolinahr is the ritual purging of all emotion. It is the final acceptance of a life governed completely by logic. My mother is from Earth. Her people are, well, to put bluntly, irrational."
But to be irrational was to be human.
"I carry both the genetic makeup of my father and my mother. It can be very difficult to control. I fear that I have inherited much of my mother's emotions and too little of my father's self-control."
