Jake chewed at his lip a little. The question was a bit prying, but he'd sort of let it open by bringing the subject up, didn't he?
"In another city, a long ways away from here," he said, "a man called Gasher tried to steal me from my... my family. He threatened them with a grenade until he'd gotten me away from them, and he... dragged me away, through the city, so fast that no one could keep up. My father came for me, but it was Oy who led the way for him." The experience had been a nightmare for Jake, who'd been beaten constantly by the Gasher-man, nose broken and both eyes bruised, before being choked within an inch of death by the Tick-Tock Man afterwards. "Oy led Roland to me, even told him how many men were holding me. And he went through an air vent to attack them when one of them hurt me."
Jake hugged Oy to him, and the bumbler permitted it, giving his Ake a lick under the chin and a bit of a nuzzle.
