Jake looked up at the voice. It was oddly musical, comforting. It held curiosity and concern, both of which caught the boy by surprise. Even Oy looked at the woman in surprise, his gold-rimmed eyes bright.
"Hi," he said, the word surprised out of him. "I do ya fine, sai." Odd that the Callah politesse was his automatic response, but the speech was a comfort at times. "Long days and pleasant nights." He tapped his throat thrice with the first two fingers of his right hand.
The monkey was fascinating. It's fur was golden, and Jake felt dazzled by it for a moment. A smile crept onto the corner of his lips. Oy stretched out his long neck to get a scent from the woman and monkey, and Jake's hand tightened a bit in his fur, silently telling the bumbler not to startle them. "I mean, I'm fine, thank you." Callah speech was fine for Roland's world, but it tended to lead to odd looks in this one.
