"You're right." Simon meant to both the date and the faking it. He didn't know how to tell Jennifer how he felt without feeling ridiculous, but he didn't want to hurt Kaylee. He liked it better when she was smiling mainly because she was the rare person who smiled at him just because she did. Of course, Kaylee tried to smile at almost everyone; she was just a good person like that.
"I have a problem talking to people. Girls especially." He shrugged. "I am great when I'm being a doctor, but when I have to be me? I don't know. It just...doesn't work." He rubbed at the back of his neck, not sure how to explain it. He didn't think there really was a particular way to explain it other than how he had. He had some sort of social issue.
"I could talk to people okay before...." He looked around. "Before I had to help my sister, and then it was different. I didn't have the money, the family support. I didn't have anything."
