Charlie smiled and shrugged. Not everyone could get apple. He wasn't sure how they chose who got what type of pie. He just lifted a fork of his own cobbler in a salute of sorts in return before he tucked into his own sweets. The coffee and milk were both good to have around. The butter and the ice cream was good, too. It was the small things that made life pretty good. Even if the one thing he really wanted he still didn't have - his freedom.
Charlie didn't say anything else for the moment, letting the young man enjoy his food. Charlie didn't mind being quiet; he didn't have to talk all the time; it wasn't that Charlie was overly conscious of social norms, but he could still be polite. He continued to enjoy his treats and drinks.
"New in town?" Charlie spoke up finally. It wasn't like he was bothering anyone, right?
