Charlie's brow raised at the question. His attention shifted to the waitress, but soon it was back on the kid who needed either manners or a shower or both. He wasn't one to be picky, but Charlie knew there were others who might be.

Charlie didn't think people could be read by their clothes; there was any number of reasons the young man could be dressed as he was, but the question suggested he wasn't dressed that way for good reasons.
