Wes palmed the needle he had pulled from his bag, glad that it was filled with the proper amount of muscle relaxant. He had been well-prepared to administer the Cruciamentum, yet had never had a chance to do so. It seemed ironic that now that he had been so long dismissed from the Watchers, the chance to work as one finally reared its head. Well, he needed to keep busy somehow. He half hoped Buffy had \run into this young Slayer and prepared her for some of the ordeals she was destined for, and yet he suspected the burden of preparing Fray for battle would fall to him.
Well, it's not like he hadn't suffered before. He'd make it through this.
In his other hand, he carried a crystal sphere.
He tossed it to Fray and said, "You need to learn some rudiments of magic as well. I want you to meditate on this sphere until you can bring flames to flicker within it. Don't look at me like that, it's what it's meant for. Now show me what you can do, Slayer of mine."
He would wait until she was focused on something other than him to administer the shot, then he would plan out how to achieve the rest of the test. From what little he had seen of the girl, she was capable of passing but she needed to know her own capabilities. A Slayer needed to know when she could act alone and when she needed to ask for help.
It was something he'd never been good at himself until not long before he...came to the City.
