"Anybody who died came back to life. Happened like that when we had a serial killer too. He was offing people left and right, but one day, they were all just alive again. My boss says no deaths, no crime."
She was starting to be annoyed about it all over again. "This place doesn't exactly make my job easy."
Jennifer made sure to avert her eyes until she was pretty sure he was done with changing. She supposed they could have gone looking for bathrooms to change in, but personally she didn't want to go anywhere except out the front doors. Going back inside for any reason seemed like a stupid idea to her.
"You should go to the hospital anyway. You're a doctor, I'm betting there's a job set up for you already. If you want it, of course. I haven't seen anything that says we have to have jobs. I do mine out of habit really. I suppose also boredom. I don't know what I'd do with myself if I wasn't working at least some of the time."
She looked at John, a bit of sorrow in her eyes for him. He was about to walk out into a world that had fucked up her whole belief system in everything. Not something she exactly wished on anybody else.
"There are a lot of strange things out there, John. I just want you to be ready for it. It sound cavalier coming out of my mouth, but I'm not used to it yet either."
