Release! [Open To Veronica]
There hadn’t been any warning that today was going to be any different form the days that had preceded it. He figured he’d wake up, do the sort of zombie, on some serious medication shuffle that he had spent the last however many days it was, doing. Then sleep. Wake up. Repeat. Except the doctor (or at least Eddie thought that it was a doctor, he had a white coat on, seemed like a doctor) after Eddie had greeted him with a “what’s up doc?” (however many days he’d been here -- that still hadn’t gotten old) had told Eddie he was free to go. Eddie (who was feeling more himself, more alert, more awake) had given the doctor a wary look and then took the doctor at his word.

He had no real plan except getting the hell out of here. He figured once he got out of this place, he’d figure out where exactly he was, and what exactly was going on. But first he had to get away from all these medication happy Doctors, and then once that was done he’d figure out exactly where he was, and how he was going to get to where he needed to go.

When his personal possessions had been returned to him, Eddie had taken back possession of Roland’s revolver, and quipped that maybe it wasn’t a great idea giving a person who had just been in a asylum a weapon. Even as he “joked” about that, he had tightened his grip on the revolver, well aware that if they had tried to take it back there was going to be an issue. The person who was handing over his personal effects just gave Eddie a blank look, and told him that he was free to go.

So go he did. Right out the door, and standing there on an unfamiliar street Eddie glanced around.

“Now what?”

Now what?

"Profit?"

Veronica arched an eyebrow.

She had a full bag on her shoulder, containing things she remembered packing at Quantico, to go home. In her hands she held release papers from Arkham, signed and saying she was free. The nurse had delivered her the papers, then told her a little about where she might find a place to stay, and that a smart girl like her would have no problem adjusting to a new place.

Huh.

She had no idea how she'd gotten there, and despite her helpful conversation with Jesse and tonguing and hiding her medication, her investigation hadn't gotten her anywhere. That was frustrating.

The guy asking the question was cute, she thought. Probably a little too old for her, maybe, but cute. She felt a little twist in her gut at the thought. Now was not the time to develop yet another ill-advised crush on a guy. Even if Jesse was right and she'd never get out of here, what if Logan showed up? Or, God help her, Piz? She silently resolved to keep things uncomplicated while she was here, then realized exactly how likely that was to actually occur.

Veronica smiled.

Eddie wasn't sure what he had been expecting when he had asked his question out loud. Certainly he had been kind of hoping for an answer, but he had been hopping it would be more along the lines of. "Go here, and talk to this person and they'll get you home." He should have realized nothing was ever, ever, ever that easy.

He glanced over at the blonde girl that had answered him, and gave her a grin.

"Profit? Well I was thinking I was going to see if I could find a cab to get me the heck away from Crazy Town." He pointed behind him at the building that he had so recently exited. "Before they change their mind. But profit is good too."

She had a bag with her, and he wondered if she had just been let go as well. Or maybe she was a denizen of wherever here was. If that was the case, Eddie sure hoped she didn't think he was crazy. He was pretty sure he wasn't.

Profit? Well I was thinking I was going to see if I could find a cab to get me the heck away from Crazy Town.

Veronica arched an eyebrow and looked over her shoulder at the asylum. When she turned back to Eddie, she made the face she often made at Logan when describing how she felt about Calculus and 09-er parties: it had come to be known as the I'd-Rather-Be-Digging-My-Way-Out-of-an-Avalanche face. It was similar to the I'd-Rather-Be-Spelunking face. But there were subtle differences.

But profit is good too.

"It's better than my other gut reactions." She waited to see if Eddie asked what that was, but she didn't wait very long. "I'm not breaking the windows for revenge or pelting the building with Snickerdoodles."

She sighed heavily and faux-dramatically, and smiled. "I'm told I can't get out of this place. Not the loony bin. The, y'know, whole place." She gave Eddie her best large, helpless blue eyes. "You wouldn't happen to know... anything... about where I could find a place to stay, would you?"

Eddie had been trouble for a long time. He liked to think he had sixth sense for people who might be trouble -- and he was pretty sure the girl giving him some very large, helpless eyes was trouble. But she also seemed to be in trouble, The same kind of trouble that Eddie himself was in. Stuck here in Wherever Land, and no way to get home.

"That would be an awful waste of Snickerdoodles. And afraid not, I was kind of hoping you'd be a local, and could point me towards a place to crash." He took a few steps towards her, holding out his hand. "Eddie. Eddie Dean. Originally from New York."

Veronica smiled.

"I do make a mean cookie. And this place? Not deserving."

The guy introduced himself, and Veronica mused how nice it was for this newfound crush not to have a soap opera name. Duncan, Logan, Stosh... really? REALLY?

She took his hand and shook it firmly, looking him in the eye as she did. "It's nice to meet you, Eddie," Veronica said. He did a full name, and a place he was from, so.... "I'm Veronica Mars. Originally from Neptune, California." She grinned at him.

Veronica only held onto his hand for a splitsecond too long. See, the self control thing with guys was getting better. "Local?" She shook her head. "I'm not sure they make those. It seemed like, from what I was hearing, everyone just... gets here." She shrugged.

"The last thing I remember was packing my bags to go home. I mean, actual home, not..." Veronica nodded with her chin at the building behind her.

"How about we just get out of here? I'm really getting tired of pretending not to notice that giant insane asylum behind me."
