"Independents." Zoe didn't add to it. There was a good bit of history, and some people did not understand it. Others did. It was what it was. It was the past.
"No sane person." Zoe laughed softly, sadly. It seemed to fit the place. "Not exactly. They're not blood. They're my crew. They might be on the outside; they might be anywhere." Zoe hoped that none of them were here, wherever here was exactly. She didn't want anyone to be caught like she was. Things felt wrong here, and she didn't like it. Her eyes lifted to the sky again.
"I'd say they're probably trying to figure out how to get me out of here, but they probably would have done that by now if they could." She looked at him. "You mentioned the United States? On...Earth?" She left out the "That Was" part of the name. Something suggested she should.
