Fred didn't try to hide the laughter at the pompom routine. It wasn't exactly what she was thinking, but it was along the same lines. She nodded slightly as he explained. Well, there was a difference.
"One's just a step up from the other. Okay. Got it. So that's the first four. What are the other three?" Fred had yet to consider why she wasn't looking at his eyes. It wasn't that she was making a conscious effort to look elsewhere, but her eyes just weren't lifting to his, not exactly. She'd watch his lips or his nose or just near his eyes. Something, way back in the back of her brain, suggested that she didn't want to look in his eyes.
