Norman couldn't explain the reasoning behind why The City had let him leave and then why he was able to return. He hadn't really been paying much attention about it, really. Because it didn't matter to Norman one way or the other. A city was a city. And this one was closer to his motel. Which meant that he had better business. And it was always about the motel, after all.
And about Mother.
He ate another piece of candy corn.
"Mother stayed though. She didn't want to leave. So she stayed."
And when Norman came back, she was still there. And the only thing he missed about being away from The City was being away from Mother. For the first time in his life, his head had been clear.
But Norman Bates really couldn't exist without his Mother. A boy always needed his Mother.
He ate another piece of candy corn.
"If you are looking for a ch-change of scenery. You're w-welcome to come to my motel for a few days. Lots of p-people go there to relax. And it has a n-n-nice view of the city."
